Final Thoughts
From my many visits to the Rhode Island Famine Memorial, I found the first request of the memorial committee to Robert Shure to be fulfilled. Not only was I able to learn more about the Great Famine and the experiences of Irish immigrants in American, but I was also able to feel as if I was a part of it. I was quickly overcome with the feelings of sadness and struggle. As I continued through the walkway, I was filled with amazement as a read through the narrative of Irish immigrants – one of struggle and suffering to one of overcoming those obstacles and prospering.
